There are two distinct types of permits which are available for vehicles in India, namely, national permit and local permit. The fees charged by the registering authority for distinct classes of vehicles is different.
If the owner of a motor vehicle wishes to apply for a local permit, the charges levied for different categories of vehicles are as follows:

If the owner of a vehicle wants to apply for a national permit, he has to apply for at least three states in the country with the exception of Delhi. The charges levied for various categories of vehicles is as follows:

Temporary Permit is issued to vehicles at Rs. 20 per day and the tax is paid to the borders.
The charges levied for authorization of AITPs for other countries between the minimum of two states is decided by the home state applicant or the state border.
A permit which is different from a temporary permit or a special permit is issued under Sub-section 8 of section 88 of the Law on Transport and Highways and it is valid for five years.
The renewal costs for a permit are similar to the charges levied on the issue of new license.
For renewing a permit, an individual will be required to submit an application along with the fee that is required for the renewal of the permit 15 days before the expiry of the permit.

The fees levied on the duplicate renewal of permit is half of the fees charged during the original renewal of permit
GOI grants the owner of a vehicle, the permit to replace the vehicle with another and keep the permit intact.
The government provides a four-month replacement period of the vehicle if the vehicle owner registers it in replacement mode.
The four-month period starts from deposit date to the date when the owner receives the permit.
If the four-month period expires, late-charges are applicable to the owner of the vehicle, which are mentioned below:
