Driving License is mandatory to drive two-wheeler or four-wheeler legally on Indian roads. However, a permanent driving license cannot be obtained right away. People need to follow the procedure to obtain a permanent driving license.
An individual who aspires to drive any vehicle in India is required to get his/her learner's license first. Learner’s license is allotted for people who are learning how to drive. After a month of the issuance of learner’s license, the person has to give the driving test for the RTO authority, who after proper review, will decide if he/she has passed the test.
Rajasthan Department of Motor Vehicles constitutes of many Regional Transport Offices and staff across the state. The Transport Commissioner of the state heads the transport Department of Rajasthan. Some of the roles of this department involve issuing DL and permits, registering the vehicles, implementing all the regulations of the Motor Vehicles Act, etc.
Overall, there are 52 Regional Transport Offices across Rajasthan which are supervised by the Regional Transport Officers.
Driving license is issued in Rajasthan under the law of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. This license can be used across the country. However, to obtain a driving license, the applicants need to procure the learner's license first.
Candidates above 18 years old can apply for a learner’s license and it is valid for 6 months. These license holders can drive vehicles which don't have the gear and have a capacity below 50CC. They also require written consent from parents/guardians. These licenses are valid for 6 months after which the applicants may take the driving test.
As it has been mentioned already, a Learner's License is a temporary License which has a validity of half a year and it is issued when the applicant is learning how to drive the vehicle. Generally, before the LL expires, you must apply for your DL. Applicants who already have owned a valid Learner's License for at least 30 days or within 180 days of the issue of LL, a candidate can apply for a DL.
After receiving the learner’s License, the applicant must learn driving a vehicle under the surveillance of a permanent license holder. However, if an applicant is applying for a Commercial License, then he/she must take the driving lessons from a certified school.
IDP or International Driving Permit is issued to people who already own a DL and people who plan on staying abroad for a stipulated period. An IDP form is filled duly to apply for an IDP in Bihar. In the IDP form, the applicant has to mention the details of the stay in the foreign country such as the duration of stay, purpose of visiting the country and the details of the countries that the applicant plans on visiting.
