Learner's License in Rajasthan

An LLR or a Learner's License is an official document that authorizes the holder to learn driving vehicles in India. However, it is mandatory for an LLR holder to learn driving under the supervision of an expert driver who has a permanent driving license. A Learner’s license comes with a validity of six months. Individuals above the age of 16 years can apply for a Learner's License for driving motorcycles without gear. Applicants must be of at least 18 years of age to be able to drive light motor vehicles with gears. The validity of the Learner’s License is not extended beyond six months and the applicant must apply for their permanent driving license within the stipulated time frame.

Rajasthan Motor Vehicle Department

The Rajasthan Motor Vehicle Department ensures smooth and steady traffic conditions in the state. The department is also in charge of issuing permits and licenses to applicants who clear the respective tests. Alternatively, they may visit the jurisdictional RTO (Regional Transport Office) to apply for the same.

Learner's License in Rajasthan - Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for an LLR in Rajasthan are:

• The applicant should be at least 16 years old for a 50cc gearless motorcycle.

• The applicant has to be a minimum of 18 years of age for non-transport four-wheelers and motorcycles with gear.

• The applicant should be at least 20 years old for transport vehicles like auto rickshaws, taxis, pickup trucks, etc. Such a person must have a valid four-wheeler driving license obtained at least a year ago.

• Training from a recognized Motor Training School is mandatory for applying for DL for commercial vehicles (as per Form no.5).

Learner’s License in Rajasthan - Application Procedure

Applicants can approach the jurisdictional RTO to apply for a Learner’s license in Rajasthan. A more preferred and convenient way of applying for an LLR would be to fill the application form online. The following steps can guide one in applying for an LLR in Rajasthan:

• Visit the official web portal of Rajasthan Transport Department.

• Click on the "Forms" tab and download the application form (Form 2) for a learner’s license.

• Fill up the form.

• Provide all necessary details, such as the category of vehicle and personal particulars.

• Submit the form to the jurisdictional RTO to obtain the date and time slot for the LLR test.

• Pay a nominal fee of Rs. 30 prior to taking the test.

• A written test has to be cleared by securing at least 60% marks. This test mainly comprises questions on road signs and symbols, traffic rules, driver’s duty, etc.

• Upon failing the test, applicants may take it again on the next day.

Having obtained the learner’s license, individuals must ensure that they drive the concerned vehicles only under the supervision of a person who has a permanent license. Moreover. they must put the ‘L’ symbol in red tape on their vehicle to inform and alert other drivers that an amateur learner is driving the concerned vehicle.

Learner's License in Rajasthan - Documents Required

These documents are required for obtaining a learner’s license (LLR) in Rajasthan:

• Medical Certificate (as per Form 1-A)

• Self-declaration of physical fitness (as per Form-1)

• Required Fees

• 3 passport size photographs

• Address proof

• Age proof

• Approval letter from parents, in case the applicant is below 18 years of age.

• CMV-Form 1A issued by a registered doctor for applicants seeking a license for transport or commercial vehicle.

• Applicants above 50 years of age must submit the CMV Form issued by a registered medical practitioner.

• Applicants seeking a license for transport or commercial vehicle should submit a valid proof of experience in driving a light motor vehicle for at least one year.

A Learner's license is just a temporary license for individuals. It should be used for honing their skills before applying for a permanent driving license in the future. A candidate may apply for the permanent driver’s license within three months of obtaining the LLR.
