In order to be able to drive a vehicle, individuals must have a valid license. A driving license gives its holder the authority to learn driving legally and simultaneously ensures that the individual is learning all the required driving skills and traffic rules. The Motor Vehicles Authority issues a Learner's license under Rule 10 of CMV Rules formulated in 1989. It is valid for 6 months.
The requirements for an LLR for a non-transport vehicle in MP are:
The minimum age for a 50cc gearless motorcycle is 16 years.
The minimum age of non-transport vehicles and motorcycles with gear is 18 years.
A declaration form is to be submitted by the applicant’s parents or guardians for those below 18 years of age.
Applicants above 50 years of age must submit the CMV Form issued by a registered medical practitioner.
The requirements for an LLR for a transport vehicle in MP are:
The minimum age for commercial vehicle learner’s license is 20 years.
The license can be obtained by individuals who wish to drive a bus, a taxi, an auto, goods carriers, and other commercial vehicles.
The applicant should mandatorily have at least 1 year's experience of driving a light motor vehicle (LMV).
The applicants must submit CMV-Form 1A during the test; a registered doctor should issue the form.

An LLR is valid for only 6 months in MP. The license holder should learn to drive within this stipulated time. The applicants can apply for a permanent driving license within 3 months of obtaining the LLR. If an applicant fails the initial test, he/she can approach the RTO for a retest within a week.
The Road Transport Department in MP looks after the issuing of learner’s license to the residents of the state. Both online and offline ways of application are available. The fees charged for the LLR is Rs 30 per category of vehicle.
To apply for an LLR online, the applicants have to follow these steps:
Visit the website of the Madhya Pradesh Regional Transport Office.
Navigate to the Driving License Application tab.
Select the appropriate form, fill it up correctly and then select a test slot.
Upon confirming that all details provided are correct, go to the payment gateway.
Pay the fees using net banking or credit/debit card. The fee will be decided according to the vehicle category applied for.
Upon successful payment, you will receive a reference number.
To apply for an LLR in person, the applicants have to follow these steps:
Visit the nearest RTO.
Procure the application form, fill in the required details and submit the documents.
After the documents are verified, deposit the required fees deposited.
You will be called to take a preliminary test. The test is based on traffic signs and signals, basic road rules, traffic regulations, and driver duties.
If you pass the test, your learner’s license will be issued.
