Buying a car or a two-wheeler is a dream for many people. The convenience of having your vehicle cannot be matched. People who aren't comfortable with public transport would benefit the most by having an own vehicle. If you are planning on purchasing a new vehicle, you will have to know more about the vehicle registration process.
Registering your new vehicle with the RTO in India is mandatory. RTO stands for “Regional Transport Office.” RTO is a government organization which is responsible for all the vehicles on Indian roads. Every vehicle which is registered is duly provided a vehicle registration card by the RTO. Except for vehicle registration or Vahan registration, RTO is also responsible for inspecting vehicle insurance, issuing driving licenses, and keeping the control of pollution generated by the vehicles.
The RTO allots a permanent Registration Number to each vehicle, which is not supposed to change by the vehicle owners under any condition. After buying the vehicle the owner is allocated a temporary registration number, which is generally valid for one month and after a month, you will be receiving a permanent registration number.
Vehicle registration is necessary due to many purposes. Some of them are mentioned below:
It proves the ownership of the vehicle. Without a valid registration certificate, you cannot sell off a vehicle and also you won't have the legal rights to transfer the ownership of the vehicle.
It also helps in recognizing the people who are involved in road accidents so that it helps in settlement of the claims afterward.
The transport Ministry of India can keep track of a number of vehicles in the country if the vehicles are registered with the RTO.
Registering a vehicle is not an option but a legal obligation in our country. The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 states that vehicle registration is mandatory in our country. The registration of vehicle falls under this Act. According to the Act, any person who can drive a vehicle and whose vehicle is registered, the registration number should be displayed on the vehicle at all times.
