Under the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988, any vehicle which is driven on public roads of the country must be registered with the Transport Department. The vehicle owner can complete the registration process by acquiring a registration certificate from the RTO for the same. It is obligatory for the vehicle owner to renew the registration certificate of the transport within 60 days of the expiry date or else they will be required to acquire a new DL.
To renew the registration certificate or RC, the vehicle owner must follow the steps described below:
Take a print-out of Form 25 and fill in the necessary details. The form must be submitted to the authority under which the vehicle has been registered.
If there are any taxes imposed on the vehicle by the authorities which are due payment, you must make the payment immediately.
According to Rule 81, Centre Motor Vehicles Rules 1989, you must pay the necessary fee during the registration certificate renewal process.
There are some documents which need to be submitted with Form 25 for the owner to renew the registration certificate of the vehicle. They are:
Form 25 which is the application must be provided for renewal of the registration certificate.
A certificate which states that the pollution emitted from the vehicle is under control.
The RC book. However, this document is required only in a few states.
The original registration certificate of the vehicle.
The document that acts as the proof of the payment of the road tax must be in possession of the driver while driving.
Insurance Certificate
Copy of owner's PAN Card (in case the owner doesn't have a PAN they can submit Form 60 or Form 61).
The engine pencil and chassis imprint of the vehicle registration certificate which is supposed to be renewed.
A document which comprises of the signature identification/thumbprint of the owner.
