A valid driving license is necessary to drive a car or motorbike. It is a legal offense to drive without a legitimate Driving Licence. Many youngsters fail to apply for a Driving Licence since they feel that it is a time-consuming process and they might need to take a day off of work. Because of extreme internet penetration, applying for Driving Licence has become very easy across the world. The procedure isn't any different in Assam. Applying for a DL in Assam is very simple and people can also apply online for acquiring a Driving Licence in Assam.
In order to apply for a Driving Licence in Assam, you must meet the following requirements:
The applicant must be 18 years old for Light Vehicles and the individual must be 21 years old to get a license to drive a transport vehicle.
An individual between 16-18 years old can get a license for two-wheelers that do not exceed a capacity of 50cc.
If the candidate meets the eligibility requirements that are mentioned above, they must keep all the documents that are necessary handy. The list of the required document include:
Passport size photograph
Copy of PAN Card
Copy of Medical Fitness Certificate
Parent/Guardian's written consent with date and signature (if the applicant is minor)
Address Proof

Assam State Government issues two types of driving Licenses:
Learner's License
An applicant has to acquire the LL before applying for a Driving Licence. LL has a validity of six months and after it expires the individual must either get it renewed or apply for a permanent Driving Licence.
Permanent License
After a month of receiving the LL, the applicant can apply for a Driving Licence. It must be noted that the applicant in no circumstances can apply for a Permanent Driving Licence before a month of owning the LL.
As it has been mentioned already, a Learner's License is a temporary License which has a validity of half a year and it is issued when the applicant is learning how to drive the vehicle. Generally, before the LL expires, you must apply for your Driving Licence. Applicants who already have owned a valid Learner's License for at least 30 days or within 180 days of the issue of LL, a candidate can apply for a Driving Licence.
After receiving the learner’s License, the applicant must learn driving a vehicle under the surveillance of a permanent license holder. However, if an applicant is applying for a Commercial License, then he/she must take the driving lessons from a certified school.

Navigate to the e-services portal.
Click on RTO Services from the links that are shown on the screen.
Find the link and download Form 4.
After downloading, the succeeding step is to fill the form with the necessary details like the name of the applicant, phone number, email address, PAN, type of vehicle, address, citizenship status, birthplace, and birthdate.
You must upload the medical certificate (Form 1A), the Learner's License and the driving school certificate.
Provide the captcha code and then click on Submit.
After you have submitted the application, you will be receiving an alert on your phone.
On the day of the test, the applicant must bring his/her vehicle. You should note that the type of vehicle has to be the same as the name provided in the documents.
In the driving test, the candidate is generally required to drive in front of the RTO official and there is a written test as well linked with traffic rules and regulations.
The results are generally announced within a few hours and if the applicant fails then he/she must give a retest within the next seven days.

The first step is to visit the official website of Assam Transport.
The next step is to navigate to the e-services portal.
From the links that are shown on the screen, you must click on RTO services.
A complete list of sub-links should be displayed and you must click on the link concerning the renewal of the Driving Licence.
Form 9 will open in an editable format.
Fill the necessary details such as the name of the applicant, license number, mobile number, date of renewal, etc.they
Upload the filled out forms which include Form 1, Form 1A, passport photograph, DL and the address proof.
Enter the captcha code and then click on Submit.
Application is processed and the renewed license is issued via post.
The method for applying for a Driving license in India is straightforward. You can follow the steps described below to understand how to apply for a Driving license offline.
The applicant has to acquire Form 4, which is the application form for driving license in India. This Form can be downloaded from the official state transport website. Alternatively, the applicant may also visit the nearest RTO to obtain the form.

A permanent Driving Licence generally expires within 20 years and its validity is mentioned on the card.
If the card has expired the applicant has 30 days to renew his/her license.
If the license owner renews within five years from the date of expiry, then he/she is exempted from the test, but the license is generally valid again from the date of renewal.
You must keep a scanned photocopy of Form 1, Form 1A, Driving Licence, Address Proof and the passport size photograph.
