In some situations, transferring vehicle ownership is inevitable. There are various situations under which ownership transfer can be done. The Government of India has made the facility available for transferring the ownership of a vehicle through a particular procedure. There are specific documents which need to be submitted for completing the procedure of ownership transfer.
Situations under which transfer of vehicle ownership could happen.
When a vehicle is bought from an existing owner, the ownership transfer must take place in the purchaser's name. The documents that must be submitted while transferring the ownership are:
Original RC
Form 29 with the duplicate copy. It contains the information regarding the buyer and seller of the vehicle
Form 30 must be duly filled and submitted too. This form provides the details linked with the hire/purchase agreement
Copy of Insurance Certificate
Copy of Address Proof
Pollution Under Control Certificate
A receipt stating that the ownership has been transferred.
If the owner of the vehicle has died, the legal heir of the owner must provide the following documents at the RTO :
Original RC of the vehicle
Form 30 and 31
NOC from the financier
Certificate of survival or succession that is issued by the authority
An affidavit/self-declaration must be submitted by the applicant stating that vehicle should be named after him/her since he/she is the legal heir
Insurance Certificate
Address Proof copy
Pollution Under Control Certificate
Copy of PAN Card
Form 20
If it is a commercial vehicle, then the documents mentioned below must be submitted along with the documents mentioned above:
Permit Surrender Slip
Acquire the challan clearance from the traffic department
Certificate of tax clearance
Certificate of Fitness
