If you are the owner of a vehicle, you must know the value of the RC card/RC book. The Government of India has made it compulsory to have a copy of the RC card/book while an individual is driving. A Registration Certificate copy or RC is a document which proves your vehicle is registered with the Regional Transport Office or RTO authorities. These days, you can procure your Registration Certificate copy as a Smart Card.
The smart card has the following details on it:
Registration Date
Engine Number
Chassis Number
Colour of the vehicle
Model Number
Seating Capacity
Type of the vehicle
Registration Number
So, it is tough to fool a cop with a fake smart card, except if the police has no clue about how to interpret it.
First, you should not panic if you lose your smart card. If you know the process of applying for a duplicate smart card, then you can quickly get a duplicate smart card issued. However, you must have the required documents to avail the duplicate smart card. Let us talk about the method of getting a Duplicate Registration Certificate Smart Card.
Things you require to do to obtain a Duplicate registration certificate smart card:
The first step is to register a complaint with the police in the nearest police station. You must give all the details about how and the location in which you lost your RC card. You must also specify the registration number, the model of your vehicle, your address, name, chassis number, and engine number of the vehicle.
A challan will be issued to you that is titled ‘RC Card Lost.’
Now, you need to download Form 26 and then fill it up. You can easily find this form on the official website of RTO of your state.
If you bought the car or bike on loan, you will be required to get the NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the lender bank.
A triplicate copy of Form 26 must carry the approval of the authority where the vehicle was registered.
You should carry a photocopy of your vehicle insurance, driving license and emission test paper.
You must submit all of these documents to the authority which registers the vehicle that you own.
You must pay the required amount for your duplicate smart card.
Firstly, buy a blank file which can hold all your papers. Write your name, address and contact number with a title 'Duplicate RC Request.'
Get an affidavit which has the details of your card or the bike that you own. You need to make sure that you have provided the details of the missing RC.
All documents including the photocopy of the emission tests, Form 26, insurance papers, passport-sized photographs, local address proof, and identity proof should be there in the file. Submit this file to the Superintendent of RTO.
After all the information has been verified by the Superintendent, he/she will sign the documents.
You will be required to visit the ARTO to verify your ID proof and attestation.
Obtain the receipt after you have paid the necessary fees.
You must visit the Superintendent of the RTO with the receipt so that he/she can verify it.
Procure acknowledgment slip from the counter.
The slip has the date on it through which you will be receiving your RC Card.
