One of the essential documents that must be procured by an individual residing in the country is a Voter ID since this document not only allows the individual to exercise his or her right to vote but also acts as identification and address proof. Applicants can apply for their Voter ID through online or offline mode. If they want to apply online, they may visit the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer of their state and attain the required forms. The form must be filled and submitted along with the relevant documents. In case an individual wishes to apply offline, they will be required to visit the Electoral Registration Office and fill out the forms and submit them along with the required documents. It is essential for individuals to have their documents of identification with themselves since verification cannot be completed without it.

The citizens can follow this method to apply online for a voter ID card:
Visit the official website of Election Commission of India.
Click on National Voters' Services Portal.
Click on 'Apply online for Registration of New Voter ID.
Fill up the required details. Fill in all the 4 sections of Form 6.
Click on Submit.
If you wish to finish the details later click on Save and fill up the details according to your convenience.
If you wish to change any details provided by you, then you can click on Reset.
Click on Upload to upload the scanned copies of all the required documents.
Upload your photograph along with the documents.
You can check the status of your Voter ID application by using the reference number.
If the individual doesn't wish to apply online, then they may follow the following the method described below to apply for voter ID offline.
Visit the State Election Office and request for Form 6.
Fill up all the necessary details and provide all the relevant documents such as the identity and address proof.
After the details provided by you are verified, submit the form in the office.
Your Election ID will be used within a specific period.
Semi-online method to get Voter ID.
There is a semi-online method to apply for voter ID card.
Visit the Election Commission or State Commission website
Download Form 6.
Fill up the form with relevant details.
Upload the necessary documents.
Submit filled form at the Election Office by post or in person.
Post the verification of the details provided by you, Voter ID will be issued to you.
You can follow these steps to apply for your NRI Voter ID online.
Visit the ECI website.
Go to the State Election Commission of India by choosing the State/Union Territory.
Select Form 6A and download it.
Fill up the form and take a print out.
Ensure that the details filled by you are the same as the details mentioned in your documents and passport.
Your passport must be attested by a competent officer of the Indian Mission in the country.
Scan the form along with a copy of your attested passport and other required documents.
You can create a login ID and password if online registration is supported in your region. If you have already registered with the ECI website, then you can upload your documents and a copy of the scanned passport online.
You may send the soft copies by email addressed to the State Election website.
If you don't have online facilities available, then you can also apply for an NRI voter ID offline.
You will be required to visit an ERO in India if you wish to apply for a voter ID offline. You will be asked to fill out the form, submit the documents and complete the application from outside India. You must download the form from the official website of ECI. After filling up the form, you must scan it and all the documents that are required along with it and post it to the address mentioned in the website.
Service elector is a citizen who qualifies as someone who can vote under the service category. Service electors have a special categorization since they do not reside in their permanent address due to government's posting. The following members are considered to be service electors:
Members of Central Armed Forces.
Members of the force. This falls under the provisions of the army act, 1950.
Members of the armed police forces of the state who are serving outside the state.
An individual who is posted outside the country by Government of India.
There are four forms available on the official website of ECI that can be used to fill out the application form for voter ID:

The applicant must be 18 years old.
The applicant must not be mentally challenged.
Applicant should not be financially bankrupt.
The applicant must fill out Form 6 and provide relevant original documents while applying for a new voter ID.
If an individual is applying online, they must ensure that it is done through the government websites.
Individuals must ensure that all the details provided by them on the application form are correct.
After receiving the voter ID, the applicant must check the information accurately to ensure that the information provided by them is correct.
