Three major coalitions in the country are contesting for the Lok Sabha elections, 2019.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA)
The NDA was formed with only 14 members as a coalition in May 1998 to contest the general elections. It was led by BJP and included several regional parties - the Samata Party, the AIADMK and Shiv Sena were the members. The government collapsed within a year as AIADMK withdrew its support. This coalition returned to power in the 2014 general elections with a total share of 38.5% with Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister. There is no Politburo or a governing structure in place in NDA. The major decisions like sharing of seats in the election, allocating the ministry and raising issues in the parliament are looked after by the convener who sorts disputes among the member political parties. Currently, Chandrababu Naidu of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is the convener of NDA.
Prime Minister candidate: The prime minister candidate for NDA is Narendra Modi.

The Third Front
The Third Front is an alliance formed in 1989 by those parties that neither wanted to be in NDA or UPA. This party has seen many parties merging and leaving. It fought the Lok Sabha elections under different names over the years. Some of them are The National Front from 1989 to 1991 under the leadership of N.T. Rama Rao of Janata Dal and The United Front which from 1996 to 1998. The Third Front Party is comparatively considered to be a failure as it has been unstable due to the difference of opinion and the absence of a major political party. Presently, the Third Front is called the Federal Front with parties like Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP). This Party is trying to lead the way in the general elections in 2019 for a three-way fight against NDA and UPA.
Here is the list of the opinion polls conducted over the past three years by various agencies of the general elections 2019:

Voter turnout in 2014, when compared to 2009, increased considerably from 58.21 to 66.40%. The Election Commission of India (ECI) put a lot of effort to increase voter turnout in Lok Sabha Elections 2019. The following are the initiatives taken by ECI:
The Election Commission is taking measures to ensure that the specially-abled people find no difficulty while polling.
ECI conducted a national consultation for two days on accessible general and assembly elections with the state and district level commission officers to discuss the ways on increasing voter turnout.
The most advanced Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the voting equipment, and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail machines or VVPAT (that prevent the trail of votes polled by the voter and ensures genuine results) are used in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019.
Also, a large number of EVMs and VVPATs are used by the Election Commission. Roughly, 26 lakh control units, 34 lakh ballot units, and 27 lakh VVPAT machines are used in the Lok Sabha elections.
Here are the modifications made to the voting equipment that are used in the 2019 general and assembly elections:
All the VVPAT machines have a built-in hood in to reduce exposure to heat and light.
There are a few design improvements that are made in EVMs and VVPATs to prevent malfunctioning during the elections.
The 17th Lok Sabha Election Results date is approaching, and of course, we all are eagerly waiting to know which party is going to govern our country. The nation needs to know how the election results are counted. Here’s the gist of the counting procedure.
Earlier, in 2014 elections, the election results were announced completely based on the count in EVMs. But this time, Chandra Babu Naidu, the leader of Telugu Desam Party, along with 20 other opposition parties, submitted a petition since they doubted the credibility of the EVMs. The petition stated that 50% of the VVPAT slips must be counted and matched with the EVM result.
However, the Supreme Court, on Tuesday, rejected the plea and announced that the random matching of VVPAT slips with EVMs is going to take place in five polling booths per assembly through a lottery process. This announcement was made as the Election Commission stated that the counting of 50% VVPAT slips would delay the election results by six days. This exercise will be held in 20,600 out of the 10.35 lakh polling stations pan India on May 23rd, when votes for the Lok Sabha elections are counted.
Finally, the wait is all over for the 17th Lok Sabha Results - 2019, which consists of 545 seats in total. The candidates from various political parties contest for 543 seats, and the president of India nominates the remaining two members. To gain a majority in the Lok Sabha and to be eligible to form the Government at the center, a party or a coalition needs to win a minimum of 272 out of 543 seats. The result was quite evident when the exit polls/opinion polls were released. BJP has won the elections with a great majority. Shri Narendra Modi is re-elected as the Prime Minister of India, to be sworn-in once again on 30th May 2019 at 7:00 PM.
