How to Check Your Name in the Voter List?

Voting right can be exercised only by individuals who are eligible for voting. Some citizens may be restricted from voting despite meeting the basic eligibility standards. This is possible if someone has gone financially bankrupt or they are mentally challenged. An individual must have a voter ID card to be able to cast their votes during elections. Voter ID card also called as the Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) is a photo identity card that is issued by the Election Commission of India to all the eligible voters of the country. The purpose of this card is to predict the electoral roll accurately and prevent any cases of electoral fraud. It also serves as an identification proof when individuals cast their vote. The Voter ID card is known by different names such as the EPIC, election card etc.

How to Check if Your Name is Already there on the Voter List?

If you are a registered voter, you can search for your name in voter list by following these steps:

• Visit the State Election Commission website.

• On the homepage, there will be links on the voter lists, click on the link that you wish to open. The list is available in PDF format.

• You can view a state-wise electoral roll in the PDF file.

• Select the state that you reside in.

• A new tab will open after you select the state. You can search your details on the voters' list by either using your name or your voter ID number.

• Enter your voter ID Number or name and click on Search.

• If you are on the electoral list, then your name will appear.

• If your name doesn't appear on the voter ID list, then you will be required to check the details again and click on search.

• If your name still doesn't appear, then your name isn't on the voters' list.

• If your name is not on the voters' list, then you will have to apply for a new voter ID card.
