Voter ID card permits the cardholder to participate in elections and choose representatives for the entire country. These representatives enact the laws and administer the country, state or local body. Indian Constitution gives voting rights to all Indian citizens above the age of 18, with some reasonable restrictions. Voter ID also serves as an official proof of identity and address. You can use your card to register and vote in elections and also as an identity document, whenever required. Since voting is an integral part of the democratic setup of our country, you must ensure that all the information provided by you while applying for the voter ID are valid. If you move to a different address, then you must update your voter ID card with the current address so that you can be able to exercise your voting rights in the current constituency as well. ECI has simplified the process to update the address on the voter ID card. Instead of submitting different applications for making corrections in your name, address or changing the constituency that you vote for, you can submit a single application for changing any of the details in your voter ID card
Transferring address in your voter ID card can be quickly done by submitting an application form with required documents to the election officer of your constituency. Shifting of name from one constituency to another is known as transposing of name from the electoral roll. Transposing of a name can be done through both online and offline methods and it is highly convenient for people who wish to keep the updated address on their voter ID card.

Fill in the requested details in the form like your full name, state or union territory, constituency etc.

A reference number will be given to you which can be used to track your application status.
After that, your application form and the documents provided by you are verified by the electoral officials.
Upon successful verification, voter ID will be issued to you with your updated address printed on it
You will be receiving a notification regarding the addition of your name in the electoral roll in the constituency where you reside

How can I change the address on my Voter ID card from one state to another?
If you have moved your permanent residence from one state to another, you will be required to update your residential address on your voter ID card
Your name must be transferred from the electoral roll of your old constituency to the new one. If an individual who moved their permanent residence to a different state doesn't update their address on the voter ID card, they won't be able to vote in any of the constituencies. So, instead of applying for a new voter ID, the individual can apply for a change in address through Form 8. You can fill up the Form 8A and apply for a change in your permanent address on your voter ID card. You can apply for a transfer in address online through the NVSP Portal or by visiting the nearest electoral office.
