People who wish to apply for Indian passports can do so using the Passport Seva Online Portal. This extremely lucid and convenient system lets the applicants select the date and automatically allots a time slot at which the applicant has to visit the PSK or PO for an appointment. The official web portal of Passport Seva at https://www.passportindia.gov.in/ provides these facilities. A service fee has to be paid online to book appointments. The appointment, once booked, may be rescheduled by the applicant only twice in a year.
The applicants can pay the fee to book their passport appointments through the following two methods:
E-Payment - using a credit card, debit card or internet banking.
Bank challan - to be paid at any branch of SBI within India.
The fees for the passport can be paid online using various channels like debit cards, credit cards or internet banking service of State Bank of India.
Online payments are highly convenient for seeking appointment bookings at PSKs. If you have applied under the Tatkal scheme, you only need to pay the normal passport fee online during the online application and the remaining Tatkal fee will be collected from you in cash at the PSK. For card payments, banks apart from SBI typically charge 1.5% + Service Tax on every transaction. Online payments are valid for one year from the date of the first appointment and applications are to be submitted within this period else the payment will be forfeited, and a fresh payment must be made.
The passport application fee can be paid offline by generating a challan from the Passport Seva Web Portal and taking a copy of it to deposit the money in any branch of SBI. After two days of depositing the money in a branch of SBI, you must check the confirmation status by clicking on "Track Payment Status." If it shows "Success," you can book an appointment by clicking on "Schedule Appointment." Tatkal applications, penalties and other miscellaneous charges are to be paid in cash directly at the PSKs. The passport application fee can be paid online using a demand draft.
Go to the 'View Saved/Submitted Applications page'.
