How To Apply for a minor's passport with the name of only one parent endorsed in it

Procuring the passport for a minor child is a trouble-free process. Parents can apply for it by submitting their supporting documents. It is highly convenient if both of the parents have their passports. However, many are unaware that it isn't mandatory to provide both the parents' details while applying for the child's passport. The modern rules for passport mandate that anyone can apply for the child's passport without providing the spouse's details at all. Read on to know more about it.

Applying for a Minor's passport online

The following steps can help in applying for a child's passport online.

• Register online with the Indian Passport website and login using a User Id and password.  

• After the registration, the parent has to fill out the online application form for the minor child.

• After submitting the application online, the parent can pay the passport fee either through an online transaction or generate a challan to be paid by visiting a branch of SBI. Successful payment of passport fees will let you book an appointment at the passport office.

• Print the online application form and take it along with other necessary documents to the passport office on the day of the appointment.

Documents required for Minor Passport Application

Here are the documents to be submitted for Minor Passport application:

• Birth Certificate which has been issued by municipality or registrar of births

• Bonafide/Study Certificate from the School

• Declaration signed by Parents as per Annexure H

• Aadhar Card (as address proof)

Steps to be followed at the passport office on the day of the appointment

On the day of the appointment, the applicant must follow these steps at the passport office:

• Reach the PSK/passport office slightly before the appointment time.

• Wait in the line, get a token and wait for your turn.

• Proceed to Counter A. Your documents will be scanned, the child's signature, photograph and fingerprints will be taken. You will have to sign the application.

• Next, visit Counter B. Your documents will be verified.

• Go to Counter C for a re-verification of your documents verified again.

• Finally, proceed to the exit counter, show the token number received at Counter C and collect the acknowledgment letter.
