Since a passport is an official document issued by the government, one must ensure that it contains all relevant and accurate information. This document not only acts as a proof of identity and address but is also a crucial document that permits individuals to travel out of the country. It contains information such as the passport holder’s name, age, gender, address, family information, signature, and photograph.
Every Indian has the right to obtain a passport. The procedure for availing a passport is also quite simple. Applicants can fill up and submit the form through the official website of passport Seva or visit the nearest Passport Seva Kendra to fill up the form. Once the application form is submitted, applicants are required to visit the Passport Seva Kendra on a designated day for an interview. They must bring along all the necessary documents on this day. Upon successful verification of all the documents, applicants typically receive their passport by post.
However, in certain instances, passport holders might feel the need to change certain information in their passports. Someone might wish to change their names after marriage, or their address after the relocation. This article provides the steps required to be followed by individuals who wish to change their gender/sex on their passport.
To change the gender/sex on the passport, one must either visit the website of Passport Seva or one of their centers to procure Form 002 or ‘miscellaneous services’ form and fill it up. Those filling the form or downloading it from the website must select the option titled, ‘reissue of passport.' Next, they must choose the option ‘change in existing personal particular’ and select ‘gender’ and then click on ‘change in existing personal particulars’.
After this, the applicant must seek an appointment with the PSK, pay the required fee and visit with the following documents:
Application Form
Duly completed and Notarized Application Form
Affidavit declaring the sex change
A certificate from the hospital where the applicant underwent the gender reassignment surgery
Old Passport in original along with self-attested photocopies of the first and last two pages of it.
Sworn Affidavit/Deed Poll as per Annexure 'E'.
A filled-in copy of Form No. II (for Miscellaneous Services).
Age proof.
Identity proof.
Address proof.
All of the documents mentioned above will be scrutinized and verified by the Passport Officer. An authority letter has to be signed by the applicant as per the Annexure. After successful completion of the verification process, the applicant can collect the endorsed Passport with the updated details.
