Wanderlust has become the new trend. Globalization has facilitated better connectivity and has opened up avenues for people to travel around the world. Exploring various countries is a lot easier and quicker these days and thus traveling has become the new buzzword. Moreover, the cost of traveling around has reduced relatively, allowing budget-friendly international trips. However, international trips have one and only prerequisite - a passport.
The Indian Passport is a crucial document, issued by the Indian Government. It certifies that the passport holder is a citizen of India by birth or naturalization. The Indian passport is an official, government-issued document which permits the passport holder to travel to foreign countries. This highly important document also confirms that the person is indeed a citizen of India. It also confirms the passport holder’s identity.
Usually, procuring a passport can be a lengthy process. Applicants must first avail of the application form from one of the PSK offices or from their official website, fill it and then submit it along with the necessary documentation. Individuals are then called for an interview for the verification of documents. A police verification is also carried out and after all the procedures are executed, the applicants receive their Passport by post. However, few changes were made by the External Affairs office in the procedure to simplify this tedious process. These changes allow individuals to get their passport within a week. The procedure is as follows:
Applicants must obtain an application form from any Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or download it from the official website.
The form must be accurately filled up and submitted.
Applicants must next book an appointment at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra by paying the processing fee.
The documents that are to be compulsorily submitted to procure a Passport at the earliest are - Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID and an affidavit stating that no criminal case has been filed against the applicant.
This filled-up application form, along with the documents, must be submitted at the PSK during the scheduled slot.
After the Granting Officer verifies the documents and approves them, applicants are entitled to receive their Passport.
The police verification, in this case, will generally be conducted at a later date.
These few simple steps can help individuals in receiving their Passport at the earliest, without the hassles of waiting for a longer time than necessary.
