A passport is a crucial document, and all citizens should have it. It not only serves as identification proof but is also widely accepted for all purposes. This document enables one to travel out of India and visit other countries. It is a mandatory document for overseas travel. This government-issued document states one's identity and nationality. A standard passport contains the holder's name, the place and the date of birth, along with the person's photograph, signature, and some other identifying information.
In case an individual has changed the address or is relocating, he/she must update the information in the passport. This involves an application for the reissue of passport which gets one a new passport booklet with a new number.
The need to change one's address is under the “change in personal details” category. One may thus apply for passport reissue. It is a simple process which is similar to applying for a fresh passport. One may visit the Passport Seva Kendra office and make a direct application by paying the fees in cash at the PSK. Alternatively, one may apply and make the payment online to schedule an appointment.
Here is a detailed guideline for changing the address in the passport.
