Linking aadhaar with driving license could curb the increasing incidents of duplicate and fake driving licenses. UIDAI and the Central Government of India are now planning to make it a mandatory process of linking aadhaar with driving license, as claimed by a recent report. The linking of aadhaar with driving license will collect all the personal information of the person in the system, and hence, it will eliminate the instances of duplicate driving licenses in the country. For example - a person guilty of committing a crime can flee the scene and apply for another driving license. If the aadhaar card of the person is linked with his driving license, the system will alert the authorities and instruct them not to issue a duplicate driver's license to the person.
You can now link your aadhar card with driving license online. The process of linking may differ in some steps across different states but the basics will remain the same. Here are the steps for you to follow.
Go to the website of the state transport corporation from where the license was issued to you.
Select the registration/license number.
Enter the details of registration or license number.
Click on ‘Get Details’ tab.
A new page will open, asking you to enter your Aadhaar number.
Enter the One Time Password (OTP) that is sent on your mobile number.
Verify the OTP by clicking on the 'Verify' tab.
Your aadhaar will link to your driving license after successful verification of the details.
For an offline process, you can visit the nearest regional road transport office (RTO) and approach the officials to get your aadhaar linked with your driving license. The steps are as follows:
Visit the RTO with your original aadhaar card and driving license.
Ask the officials to provide the Aadhaar Registration Form.
Enter your aadhaar and driving license details along with other related information.
Submit a duly filled and self-attested form to the concerned RTO authority.
The RTO official will verify the details from the original documents and take photocopies of the aadhaar card and driving license.
You will get an SMS on your mobile number once your aadhaar card links with the driving license.
How to Check the Status of Aadhaar Linkage with Your Driving License?
Won’t you be keen on knowing the status of Aadhaar-Driving License linkage after applying for it? Well, for that purpose, either you can make a quick visit to the RTO and inquire about it, or you can send a mail to the respective RTO asking the status. After checking the details, the officials will reply to you with an update. If the update says, ‘pending,’ then you should request the RTO officials to link aadhaar with your driving license soon.
