Since Aadhar has become a mandatory document in many official procedures, it has become more convenient for Aadhar holders to apply for several services like applying for a passport, visa, opening a bank account, etc. Aadhar number is considered as a valid identity and address proof and it can be used as a document to apply for PAN card.
31st March 2021 has been set as the deadline for linking PAN and Aadhar, by the Income Tax Department. On failing to link Aadhar and PAN before the last date, the PAN card will turn inoperative from 1 April. If someone tries to use a PAN card that has turned inoperative, they may also be fined ₹10,000. The declaration came from CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes) in a notification on February 13, 2020.
PAN is an essential element in many financial transactions, such as property sale, banking transactions, investing in stocks/mutual funds, etc.
Here are a few steps that you can follow to apply for PAN card through Aadhar:
Step1:
Visit the official website of UTIITSL and navigate to PAN card application page or follow the link https://www.utiitsl.com/pan/#one. Once you've landed on the official webpage of UTIITSL, click on 'Apply for PAN as Indian/NRI' link.
Step 2:
After clicking on the link 'Apply for PAN,' four options will be shown on the screen. Select 'Aadhar based e-sign.' Post clicking on the link, you'll be required to fill Form 49A/ Form 49AA depending on the type of your application form. You can submit the form after signing it by e-Sign through Aadhar.
Step 3:
Navigate to the top of the webpage and click on 'Aadhar based KYC options.' Click on the box but make sure that your application form is signed through e-Sign based on Aadhar. Select the status of the applicant. For instance, if you're an individual applying for PAN Card, you can select 'individual' in this section.
Step4:
You can fill the form after confirming your Aadhar e-Sign. Details that are required to be filled by you are:
Upload the of relevant documents after filling up the application form. If you have selected Aadhar based e-KYC option, then you will have to submit a copy of your Aadhar card as the identity, address and date of birth proof.
Step 5:
Cross-check the information that you have provided and click on 'Submit.' After you have submitted the form, you'll be given an acknowledgment number that could be used to track the status of your application form
