The trading of financial instruments is an exciting opportunity for people to grow their money. Each trading instrument is accompanied by its own risk and returns pattern; it varies from one instrument to another. A debt instrument comes with a fixed rate of return, but the return for stocks and shares fluctuates. Trading is to be done intelligently. Stock exchanges facilitate the trade of equities and mutual funds, whereas forex markets facilitate the trade of currencies. Individual traders, brokers, institutional clients such as corporates, speculators and arbitrageurs can indulge in online trading.

Overview of National Stock Exchange (NSE)
National Stock Exchange is the first Indian stock exchange that had introduced a mechanized trading system. NSE began its trading activities in 1994 and was recognized as the 4th largest stock exchange in terms of annual stock trading turnover by the WFE or World Federation of Exchanges. NSE has a totally integrated online trading module which encompasses financial literacy offerings, clearing services, settlement services, data feed offerings, services for online trading and technology-centered services.
Products of NSE
The products of NSE can be sorted into four categories: capital markets, derivatives, trackers and debt instruments. NSE’s derivatives include stock derivatives, currency derivatives and NSE bond futures. The products traded in the capital market via NSE are stocks, indices, mutual funds, offer for sale and exchange-traded funds. Debts comprise corporate bonds and NSE EBP; the trackers of NSE are global indices, bank nifty and India VIX.
The stock market remains closed on certain holidays. If you are a stock trader, you should have a good understanding of stock market holidays on which traders and investors cannot process trading requests. Bank Holidays and Stock market holidays do not always collide. Hence, it is important to know the NSE holidays as they differ from other holidays
NSE operates on five days in a week and remains closed on all weekends. This is BSE’s regular working schedule:
Pre-Open Timings
Modification and order entry: starts at 9 AM and closes at 09:08 AM on all working days.
Regular Trading Timings
Restricted physical market or normal market: starts at 09:15 AM and closes at 3:30 AM on all

The stock market holidays are also called as trading holidays. All institutional, as well as individual stock traders, must acquaint themselves with the stock market holidays before trading. Stock market holidays may vary from other holidays. It is not necessary that stock market holidays and bank holidays coincide.
