Bombay Stock Exchange or BSE was conceptualized in 1875. It is the oldest stock exchange in Asia. BSE is located in Mumbai, and it is the third largest stock exchange in the world. BSE became popular across the globe for the quick processing of transactions as it operates with an average pace of 6 microseconds. BSE’s market capitalization was $2 trillion in July’17. BSE provides a better platform to Indian corporates for raising capital. It is a complete platform for trading stocks of all types of companies, mutual funds, debt instruments, and currencies.
The stock market remains closed on certain holidays. If you are a stock trader, you should have a good understanding of stock market holidays on which traders and investors cannot process trading requests.
BSE operates on five days in a week and remains closed on all weekends. This is BSE’s regular working schedule:
Modification and order entry: starts at 9 AM and closes at 09:08 AM on all working days.
Restricted physical market or normal market: starts at 09:15 AM and closes at 3:30 AM on all working days.
The stock market holidays are also called as trading holidays. All institutional, as well as individual stock traders, must acquaint themselves with the stock market holidays before trading. Stock market holidays may vary from other holidays. It is not necessary that stock market holidays and bank holidays coincide.
The trading session remains closed between 3.40PM and 4 PM.
The trading hours are extended, reduced or advanced as and when necessary.
